T6 Ocean Crossing: Log #2
life at sea on the journey to panama
On December 27, 2025 the crossing from St. Croix to Panama began, and life aboard has started to find its pace. The initial excitement of departure has given way to steady routines, shared responsibilities, and the simple observations that only come with time offshore. From the Caribbean Sea, Captain Michael Snow offers the following update as the crew nears the end of this passage.

captain’s log— from the carribean sea
“We are into day five of the Caribbean Sea passage from St Croix to Panama. We estimate our arrival to shelter bay sometime around noon tomorrow, New Year’s Day.
The crew has been enjoying this adventure. Chris and Amy are experiencing open ocean travel for the first time and are taking it all in, filling their days with all the activities that go along with days at sea. After they complete their daily required duties like engine and boat system checks and helm watch, they are free to engage in some of the other forms of recreational pass times, like playing card games, reading and the ever-popular mid-day nap!
But for all of nothing can compare to just sitting on the deck and staring out over the massive body of water that surrounds us, offering endless waves with the occasional sea bird or a pod of dolphins. And at night there is no better place to sit and look at the night sky, with no nearby light sources, the stars light up with a brilliance that you won’t see anywhere else.
Gabriel has kept busy. Not only has he stayed on top of potential problems that tend to pop up on a new boat, but he also managed to land a couple of black fin tuna. He took some of that tuna and made a delicious ceviche that the crew went nuts over. But my favorite was the bean and ham soup that Gabriel put together using the remains of our Christmas ham.
Captain Jim Whipple who is along to guide us to and through the Panama Canal is not slouch either when it comes to meal prep on a passage. Jim’s contribution to dinner on the 3rd night was fish tacos. Outstanding!”
