Introducing the Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel
If you’ve been dreaming about Lānaʻi, you’ve probably come across our Discover Lānaʻi tour—it’s been our flagship for decades. And for good reason.
But for those who’ve already experienced it… or for those who feel most at home out on open water, we built something a little different.
The Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel is a more ocean-forward experience. Same channel, same incredible coastline—but a completely different way to explore it.
Before we get into what makes this sail special, it helps to understand our connection to Lānaʻi in the first place.
Our History with Lānaʻi (and Why That Matters)
Eldon Coon Sailing to Lanaʻi
Eldon Coon Cooking the Orginal Island BBQ on Lanaʻi
Long before catamarans were a common sight in the ʻAuʻau Channel, the Coon family found their way to Lānaʻi and built a relationship that still shapes how we sail today.
Back in the 1970s, Eldon, Jim, and Randy Coon did something simple, but meaningful—they asked permission.
At the time, other companies had attempted to run tours to Lānaʻi and were unsuccessful. When the Coon brothers approached the island’s owners directly, they were welcomed. Permission was granted with one request:
No tours on weekends or holidays, so the local community could enjoy Hulopoʻe Bay without interruption.
More than 50 years later, that understanding still guides us.
Over the decades, we’ve built strong relationships with the Lānaʻi community—rooted in respect, consistency, and showing up year after year. One of the ways we stay connected is through our annual Turkey & Rice Giveaway, where we distribute turkeys to each family on Lānaʻi as a way to give back and say mahalo.
Our commitment extends beyond a single day. Trilogy crews have supported efforts to care for native species and landscapes on Lānaʻi, and partnered in programs like the Maunalei Ahupuaʻa Lawaiʻa Camp, which helps pass down traditional fishing practices and ʻike to the next generation. Through the Mālama Lānaʻi program, we’ve also brought guests across the ʻAuʻau Channel to take part in hands-on restoration work—removing invasive species and planting native vegetation alongside local partners, helping protect the island from the uplands down to the reef. We’ve also hosted Blue ʻĀina reef cleanups on Lānaʻi, working alongside community members to mālama the reefs and shoreline.
Today, Trilogy remains the only catamaran company with permission to bring guests to Lānaʻi, and we continue to honor that original agreement by sailing Discover Lānaʻi during the week.
With the Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel, we’re able to sail on weekends in a way that respects that balance—spending our time snorkeling along the coastline while leaving Hulopoʻe Bay to the community.

What Is the Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel?
@sailtrilogy We only have one life, might as well live it to the fullest💙🐠 #SailTrilogy #yolo #thiscouldbeyou #maui #lanai ♬ Island In The Sun - Weezer
The Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am to 2:00pm (5.5 hours), and it’s designed for guests who want more time sailing and exploring the coastline itself.
This is not a beach day. Itʻs a true sailing and snorkeling adventure along Lānaʻi’s remote shoreline—where conditions, wildlife, and visibility can shift with the day.
You’ll cross the ʻAuʻau Channel with our crew, then head toward remote snorkel sites along the coast, including Kaunalu (Shark Fin) when conditions allow. When it’s not snorkelable, your captain may choose alternate locations such as Club Lānaʻi or other protected areas along the coastline, always based on safety and ocean conditions.
After snorkeling, we’ll enjoy lunch onboard as we take in the coastline before heading back across the ʻAuʻau Channel.
what’s Included?
We keep it simple, thoughtful, and well-paced.

A full selection of non-alcoholic beverages is available anytime. For guests 21 and over, the premium bar includes signature cocktails, locally brewed beer, wine, and prosecco.
Snorkeling gear & guidance:
We provide high-quality snorkel equipment, flotation, and hands-on support in the water. Our crew is right there with you—whether it’s your first time or you’re just looking for the best spot to explore.
A day shaped by the ocean:
More time sailing, more time in the water, and a route guided by real-time conditions—so you experience Lānaʻi the way it shows up that day.
How It Compares to Discover Lānaʻi
Both sails take you across the same channel to the same island—but they’re built for different kinds of days.
Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel
Shorter day (5.5 hours)
Sundays only (while respecting Hulopoʻe Bay)
Focus on offshore coastal snorkeling and sailing
Visits more remote or condition-dependent snorkel sites
This is the sail we recommend for guests who want to maximize their time in the water—exploring the reefs and deeper coastline along Lānaʻi—and still have time left in their day back on Maui for other activities.
Discover Lānaʻi
Full-day experience (approx. 8 hours)
Weekdays only (honoring the original agreement)
~2.5 hours at Hulopoʻe Bay for beach time, snorkeling, or walking up to Puʻu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock)
Structured, relaxed, and ideal for first-time visitors
This is the one we recommend if you want to fully experience Lānaʻi on land and in the water at a comfortable pace.

Which One Is Right for You?
If you’re traveling with family, want time on the beach, or prefer a more guided and structured day, Discover Lānaʻi is still the experience we’d point you toward first.
If you’ve already done that sail—or you’re someone who lights up when the sails go up and the coastline comes into view—the Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel offers a different kind of connection.
Less schedule. More ocean.
A Quick Note on Ocean Conditions & Wildlife
Every day out here is different.
Our captains choose snorkel locations based on real-time ocean conditions, always prioritizing safety and reef health. Some areas may be inaccessible depending on swell or wind, and that’s part of what keeps these places protected.
When snorkeling:
Keep a respectful distance from marine life
Never stand on or touch coral
Use reef-safe, non-aerosol sunscreen
These small choices help protect the same reefs and coastlines we’re lucky enough to share.
If You’re Ready for Something New…
The Lānaʻi Adventure Snorkel was built for returning guests, ocean lovers, and anyone curious about seeing Lānaʻi from a different angle.
If that sounds like your kind of day, we’d love to welcome you aboard.
