Explore our NEW Snorkeling Tour: Turtle Reef Snorkel
Some days on the water are predictable. Most aren’t. The wind shifts. Visibility opens up in one spot while another goes quiet. A Honu shows up where it wasn’t the day before.
That’s exactly why we created the Turtle Reef Snorkel—a shorter snorkel sail on Maui that lets the ocean lead, with your captain choosing the best location based on real conditions that morning.

What is the turtle reef snorkel excursion?
The Turtle Reef Snorkel is a 3.5-hour sailing and snorkeling experience on Maui, designed to give you a full, satisfying time on the water—without taking up your entire day.
You can join from two convenient harbors:
8:00am from Maʻalaea Harbor
8:30am or 1:30pm from Lahaina Harbor
This tour runs Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, making it easy to fit into your stay, whether you’re planning ahead or keeping things flexible.
From the moment you step aboard, the tone is relaxed. You’ll cruise along the coastline on one of our sailing catamarans while the crew shares what they’re seeing that day—conditions, currents, and where the reef is most active.
Then, when it’s time, you’ll slip into the water for a snorkel that’s been chosen specifically for that moment.
Where do you snorkel?
This is what really sets this snorkel tour apart from the rest: there’s intentionally no fixed snorkel site on this tour.
Instead, each day your captain will select the best snorkel location for the day based on:
Wind and ocean conditions
Water clarity
Recent Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle) sightings
That means you’re not locked into a single destination that may or may not be at its best. You’re going where the reef is actually thriving that day.
You’ll have quality snorkel gear, flotation options if you’d like extra support, and a crew that’s there to guide you—whether it’s your first time snorkeling or you’re already comfortable in the water.
Places you might explore
Depending on conditions, some of your snorkel sites could include (but are not limited to):
Olowalu, also called “Maui’s Mother Reef”, known for its expansive, shallow reef and consistent marine life
Coral Gardens, with clear water and a healthy mix of reef fish
Māla Wharf, a structure-turned-reef that often attracts turtles and schooling fish
Or it may be another stretch of coastline your captain knows is offering better conditions that day.
The goal isn’t to follow a script. It’s to give you the best possible time in the water.
What’s Served onboard?
The food is simple, fresh, and thoughtfully timed to the length of the tour.
You’ll be served a continental breakfast that includes:
Mom Coon’s 4th generation cinnamon rolls
A hummus veggie platter
Tropical fruit
Alongside coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or pineapple juice.
After snorkeling, you’ll come back aboard to refuel with a savory Trilogy-style chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread.
Non-alcoholic beverages are available throughout the trip. For guests 21 and over, a premium bar is included with valid ID, featuring Trilogy’s signature cocktails, wine, and locally brewed beer.
Snorkeling with respect
Honu are part of what makes this experience memorable—but they’re also protected.
We approach every encounter with care:
Give them space (10 feet according to NOAA laws)
Let them move freely
Do NOT touch any marine life or coral
Observe without interrupting
Wear reef-safe sunscreen in the water (if you do not have any, we provide some onboard)
Our crew will guide you in the water so you know what respectful viewing looks like. It’s a better experience for you, and it keeps the reef healthy for the long run.
Come see what the ocean is offering
No two days are the same out here—and that’s the point.
The Turtle Reef Snorkel isn’t about going to one specific place.
It’s about being in the right place at the right time, with a crew that knows how to find it.
