Trilogy Receives Pacific Business News Kōkua Kahiau Award for the Second Year

Dianna Grundhauser and Captain Riley Coon accepting the Kōkua Kahiau Award for Trilogy Excursions

On October 22, 2026, Trilogy was honored at Pacific Business News’ second annual Kōkua Kahiau Awards at Prince Waikīkī on Oʻahu. We joined a group of 22 honorees recognized for their contributions to Hawaiʻi’s communities, with Riley Coon accepting the award in person on Trilogy’s behalf.

Receiving this recognition for the second year is meaningful to our Trilogy ʻOhana. It reflects work that brings us together beyond our daily sails, and a responsibility to care for the community and ocean that make those experiences possible.

What Is the Kōkua Kahiau Award?

Pacific Business News describes the spirit behind Kōkua Kahiau as helping others without expecting anything in return. The awards recognize businesses and organizations whose contributions support communities throughout Hawaiʻi, including work in environmental conservation and education.

For Trilogy, that spirit feels close to home. Our connection to Maui extends beyond the time we spend welcoming guests aboard. It also shapes how we use our boats and our relationships to support work that matters here.

“We are honored to be selected and awarded for the 2nd time to receive this recognition, alongside other amazing companies throughout our pau’aina. We feel a strong Kuleana to make lasting impacts within our community here on Maui, and to be stewards of our precious ocean resource.”
— Riley Coon

What Does Giving Back Look Like at Trilogy?

Giving back at Trilogy takes us beyond our daily sails. It means supporting the communities we’re part of and making time to care for the places where we live and work.

Ocean Stewardship Through Blue ʻĀina

Blue ʻĀina brings volunteers and business sponsors together to support ocean conservation and local nonprofits. Our 2026 efforts have included removing marine debris from Maui’s reefs and helping The Marine Institute at Maui Ocean Center with coral restoration work. Each partnership offers a different way to contribute, whether that means getting in the water for a cleanup or providing a vessel to transport a conservation team and its equipment.

September’s sail with Mama’s Fish House showed how those efforts can reach beyond the reef. Alongside a harbor and underwater cleanup, their sponsorship included a $1,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui.

You can follow these partnerships and the work taking place throughout the year in our 2026 Blue ʻĀina stewardship journal.

Supporting Restoration on Kahoʻolawe

Our commitment to stewardship also takes our crew ashore. During a four-day volunteer access trip with the Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission, Trilogy crew and staff helped plant native beach grass and repair erosion damage along roads used to access restoration areas. Working alongside the KIRC team gave our ʻohana an opportunity to contribute directly to the island’s ongoing restoration.

We’re preparing to return in the coming weeks to lend a hand again and continue that relationship.

An Earth Day Tradition with Kīpuka Olowalu

Our annual Earth Day volunteer day with Kīpuka Olowalu is another opportunity to work together on land. Past projects have included weeding a kalo garden and preparing fencing to protect native trees from introduced animals. Time spent with the Kīpuka Olowalu team also gives our crew a chance to learn about the place and the restoration work happening there throughout the year.

See what that day looks like in our Earth Day volunteer story with Kīpuka Olowalu.

Giving Thanks on Lānaʻi

Community care also lives in traditions that bring neighbors together. For more than three decades, Trilogy and the Coon ʻohana have hosted an annual Thanksgiving Turkey & Rice Gifting on Lānaʻi. What began with Capt. Jim and Rand Coon purchasing turkeys for Trilogy employees grew into an island-wide tradition offering a Thanksgiving turkey to every residential family on Lānaʻi.

It’s a way to express our gratitude for a community that has been part of Trilogy’s story for generations.

These are just a few examples of how our Trilogy ʻohana gives back. We’re always looking for more ways to support our community and work alongside others caring for the islands we call home.
