Lāhainā Homecoming: A Weekend of Community, Connection, and Hope
For nearly two years, Lāhainā Harbor felt different.
The boats were quiet. Familiar gathering places sat empty. For many who call Lāhainā home, returning wasn't always possible, and for those who could, it often came with a mix of emotions that are difficult to put into words.
Then, over one weekend, Front Street came back to life.
Surfers waited for waves just outside the breakwall. Boats came and went from the harbor once again. Front Street filled with neighbors, families, and friends reconnecting with one another. It wasn't a sign that the journey of recovery is complete, because it isn't. It was something just as meaningful: a reminder of the strength of a community coming together.
Lāhainā Homecoming created space for those moments. As people gathered to celebrate, reconnect, and support one another, there was a renewed sense of hope that could be felt both on land and out on the water.
We were grateful to witness it and honored to play a small part.
Before Lāhainā Homecoming began, Riley Coon shared why this weekend represented so much more than a community event—it was a chance to reconnect with the people and place that mean so much to so many.
What Is Lāhainā Homecoming?
Lāhainā Homecoming is more than a community event—it's a community-led effort to welcome people back to the town they love. Coordinated by Festivals of Aloha as an initiative of the Maui Economic Recovery Commission's Healing Journey Team, and made possible through the support of the County of Maui Office of Recovery, Hawaiian Council, Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, Hawaiian Airlines, local organizations, private donors, and countless volunteers, the weekend was created to celebrate Lāhainā's enduring spirit while supporting its continued recovery.
For many, the journey to Lāhainā Homecoming began long before they arrived on Front Street. Families traveled from across Hawaiʻi and the continent after rebuilding their lives elsewhere following the fires. Some were returning to Maui for the first time in nearly two years. The weekend became an opportunity to reunite with loved ones, reconnect with neighbors, and spend time in the place that will always feel like home.
Across the weekend, Front Street came alive with cultural demonstrations, live entertainment, local food, keiki activities, and a marketplace filled with local vendors and wildfire-impacted businesses. Community organizations, nonprofits, and sponsors worked alongside volunteers to create spaces where people could gather, support local entrepreneurs, and celebrate the resilience of Lāhainā together.
The weekend also looked toward the future. The County of Maui's Office of Economic Development hosted a career fair connecting residents with employers offering meaningful opportunities to help people remain on—or return to—Maui. Recovery isn't only about remembering what was lost. It's also about creating opportunities for people to build what's next.
A Small Part of Something Bigger
As part of Lāhainā Homecoming, Trilogy was honored to partner with Maui County to offer Community Sails from Lāhainā Harbor. These special sails were created to give people with ties to Lāhainā an opportunity to spend time together on the water, reconnect with familiar faces, and experience the harbor from a perspective that has always been part of the town's identity.
Throughout the weekend, our crew welcomed longtime residents, former residents, multigenerational families, and friends aboard. There were hugs on the dock, stories shared across the deck, and quiet moments spent looking back toward the shoreline. For many, simply leaving the harbor under sail again carried a meaning that went far beyond the boat itself.
It was a privilege to provide the setting for those moments. The conversations, laughter, and memories belonged to the people of Lāhainā. We were simply grateful to help make space for them.

Back on the Water Together
When Lāhainā Harbor reopened, Trilogy was grateful to return home. In those first weeks back, we welcomed our community aboard through a series of Community Sails, creating space to reconnect on the water during an emotional chapter in Lāhainā's recovery.
Lāhainā Homecoming brought a new feeling.
As our Community Sails departed the harbor, Front Street was alive with music, local vendors, keiki activities, and neighbors reconnecting. When we returned a few hours later, the sidewalks were still full of people gathering, sharing meals, and celebrating together. It was a sight many of us hadn't experienced in more than two years.
For our crew, that feeling is difficult to put into words. Lāhainā Harbor has always been more than the place where our boats are moored—it's part of the heartbeat of our company. To leave the harbor surrounded by the energy of the community, then return to a town filled with familiar faces once again, was something we'll never forget.
The Community Sails were about more than spending an afternoon on the ocean. They were an opportunity to experience this moment alongside our neighbors—to see Lāhainā not only reopening, but gathering together again. That shared experience reminded us that while recovery continues, the spirit of this community remains as strong as ever.

Lāhainā Homecoming wasn't the end of the story—it was one meaningful chapter in a journey that continues every day.
