Gathering for Lahaina: Supporting the Restoration of the Historic Old Lahaina Courthouse
There are places on Maui that hold more than history.
They hold memories of arrivals and departures. Family gatherings. Fishing stories shared at the harbor. Children running beneath the Banyan Tree. Generations of residents, workers, voyagers, and visitors moving through the same spaces over time.
The Historic Old Lahaina Courthouse is one of those places.

Standing beside Lahaina Harbor and the Banyan Tree Park, the courthouse has long served as part of the cultural and historical heart of Lahaina. Today, restoration efforts continue following the devastating Lahaina fires, with community organizations and local businesses working together to help preserve this important gathering place for future generations.
how the community is coming together to help rebuild
This past week, on May 16th, 2026, Trilogy had the honor of supporting the 3rd Annual Lahaina Restoration Foundation Benefit Lūʻau in partnership with Old Lahaina Lūʻau — a sold-out evening dedicated to raising funds for the restoration of the Historic Old Lahaina Courthouse.
For Trilogy, the connection is deeply personal.
Riley Coon, part of Trilogy’s founding family and a Trilogy board member, has served on the Lahaina Restoration Foundation board for more than 10 years. Riley also served as a committee chair for this year’s event and has been involved in all three annual benefit lūʻaus held in partnership with Old Lahaina Lūʻau since the fires.

The partnership itself carries special meaning within the Lahaina community.
After being displaced for six months following the fires, the very first event Old Lahaina Lūʻau hosted upon reopening was a fundraiser for the Lahaina Restoration Foundation. What began as an act of support during a difficult season has now become an annual tradition rooted in mālama for Lahaina and its historic places.
about the lahaina restoration foundation
To better understand this event, it helps to understand the organizations running it.
Founded in 1962, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation (LRF) is a Hawaiʻi nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Lahaina’s historic and cultural landmarks for future generations. Over the decades, the organization has helped care for some of Lahaina’s most recognized historic sites, including the Old Lahaina Courthouse, Baldwin Home Museum, Wo Hing Museum, Hale Aloha, the Old Prison, and areas connected to the Lahaina Historic Trail.
Following the Lahaina fires of August 2023, many of the historic buildings and collections under LRF stewardship were severely damaged or destroyed. In response, the organization began long-term restoration and reconstruction planning focused on preserving the cultural identity and historic character of Lahaina. Current efforts include restoration planning for eight major historic properties, including the Historic Old Lahaina Courthouse located beside Lahaina Harbor and the Banyan Tree Park.
Beyond preserving buildings, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation helps protect the stories, gathering spaces, and shared history that continue to shape Lahaina’s identity. Through educational programs, cultural preservation efforts, historical archives, and community events, the organization plays an important role in ensuring Lahaina’s history remains accessible to future generations.

For decades, Old Lahaina Lūʻau has been recognized not only for sharing Hawaiian cultural traditions through hula, mele, and storytelling, but also for its longstanding connection to the Lahaina community. Located along the Lahaina shoreline, Old Lahaina Lūʻau has long created space for gathering, education, and cultural connection on Maui.
Following the Lahaina fires, Old Lahaina Lūʻau was displaced for six months before reopening. The first event hosted upon reopening was a fundraiser supporting the Lahaina Restoration Foundation — an effort that has now grown into an annual tradition focused on preserving Lahaina’s historic sites and supporting community recovery.
At a time when many local businesses were navigating immense uncertainty, Old Lahaina Lūʻau chose to use its space as a place for community support and giving back. Their continued partnership with organizations like the Lahaina Restoration Foundation reflects a larger commitment to mālama Lahaina — helping preserve the people, places, and cultural history that make Lahaina so meaningful to residents and families across Maui.
Progress being made
Since the fires, Old Lahaina Lūʻau has hosted nine community events and, through those efforts, has collectively helped raise more than $2 million for local nonprofits and recovery initiatives.
For many residents on Maui, Lahaina is not simply a visitor destination. It is home to generations of stories, relationships, businesses, traditions, and livelihoods connected to the harbor and surrounding historic district.
Places like the courthouse matter because they help carry those stories forward.
At Trilogy, stewardship has always been closely tied to the places and communities that shaped our company. Since 1973, the Coon family and Trilogy team have remained involved in ocean conservation, community partnerships, and efforts that help preserve the cultural and environmental spaces that make Maui unique.
Supporting the Lahaina Restoration Foundation is one small part of that ongoing commitment.
We extend our deepest mahalo to Old Lahaina Lūʻau, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, the volunteers, sponsors, organizers, and every guest who attended this year’s event in support of Lahaina’s future.
