Trilogy VII Crossing Blog #5: Home Sweet Home, Lahaina Harbor!

After 2 nights in Cabo San Lucas it was finally time to head west towards home! We were all excited for the last leg and to see what the Pacific had in store for us. Luckily, the forecasts were accurate and our 2400 mile journey across was dreamy, with calm seas and light winds.

Our days were spent alternating watch, reading and playing lots of scrabble! We enjoyed delicious preparations of fish from our stockpiled freezer and even went for a swim at the halfway point, 1200 miles from the closest land! Jason and I spent a morning making Christmas ornaments from Hershey kisses wrappers, and secured them to our Christmas “tree,” which was a sprouted onion that came with us all the way from St. Croix.

Before we knew it, Mauna Kea was in sight framed by a perfect Christmas Day sunset. We were all so happy to be able to call our families and wish them a Merry Christmas.

We spent Christmas night on anchorage, enjoyed a drink and reminisced on the previous 6 weeks. Because of the holiday weekend, customs was closed and we had to wait on anchorage outside Hilo for 2 days.

We got confirmation that we were cleared into the US and took off Tuesday morning headed home to Lahaina. The Alenuihaha channel was calm, and Haleakala was on the horizon by mid-afternoon.

We were greeted by Trilogy 2, 5, 4 and 6 as we passed through the Maui Nui basin, and the boat got a good champagne spray down from the sunset sail groups.

Our friends, family and coworkers were waiting for us on the loading dock in Lahaina and the celebration was epic. Trilogy 7 is safely secured in her new home and it feels surreal to see her all tied up and being prepared to run trips in the near future.

When I decided to move to Maui in 2019 I looked at various boat companies websites, and stumbled across the blog posts from Trilogy V’s crossing. I knew after reading Captain Raquel’s entries that I wanted to be a part of this company and someday hoped to have the chance to experience a crossing like theirs. To have done it and see Raquel, who has become a huge mentor to me over the years, waiting on the dock was a surreal, full circle moment.

Looking back on this adventure, I am immensely grateful for Bobby, Gabriel, Jason and Sydney. We kept it fun throughout the entire trip, leaned on each other when things got hard and formed a bond I will cherish for the rest of my life.

This trip was the experience of a lifetime, and if I could go and do it all over again tomorrow I would jump at the chance.

T7 dream team forever!
