Trilogy VII Crossing Blog #3: Stranded in Panama

Aloha from Shelter Bay!

Today marks one week from our arrival in Panama, and after a few delays we are starting our journey through the Canal tonight! We are all excited to get moving soon. This week we explored the area around the marina, enjoyed some delicious food, and even ventured into Panama City!

The area around the marina has a heavy military presence, and the jungle has 2 abandoned artilleries that were used in to train the Panamanian military in the early 1900’s. We took a hike to explore them and were greeted by the eerie sounds of howler monkeys in the trees. On the way back we heard growling coming from the jungle very close to the trail, only to find out the area is frequented by leopards after the fact. That was our last adventure in the woods of the week.

After another delay, Jason, Gabriel and the two of us decided to have a driver take us to Panama City to explore. We explored Casco Viejo which is the historic area of the city. The architecture was stunning and we enjoyed some local food. We even found a restaurant that serves tarantula, a local delicacy, but none of us were brave enough to try it.

We’ve had quite a bit of rain this week, and have been holed up passing time with card games, reading and friendship bracelet making. We found a guitar for Bobby in the city and even wrote a song. Are you ready for it?

“Sittin’ Here in Shelter Bay” by the T7 Delivery Crew

Sailin' in the mornin' sun

I'll be sailin' when the evenin' comes

Watching the fish reel in

Then I watch 'em roll away again

So I'm just sittin' here in shelter bay

Watchin' morale fade away

I'm sittin' here in Shelter Bay, wastin' time

I left my home in Maui

Headed for Salt River Bay

I got limited water

Only shower every 7 days

So I'm just sittin' here in shelter bay

Watchin' morale fade away

I'm sittin' here in Shelter Bay, wastin' time

Sittin' here restin' my bones

In our mega bed that we call home

Six thousand miles, I roam

One day we’ll get T7 home

Now I'm just gon' sit, here in shelter bay

Waiting in line for canal day, ooh yeah

Sittin' here in shelter bay

Wastin' time

We’re finalizing a few boat projects today and are meeting our Canal pilot this afternoon. We’ll be spending the night in Gatun Lake before finishing our transit of the canal tomorrow morning. The weather forecast for the upcoming journey looks good, and the plan is to head out Tuesday for Cabo.

More updates to come,
