Trilogy VII Crossing Blog #2: Watch Out For Flying Fish

“That looks like a trash panda but faster, I don’t trust it.” -Jason encountering new wildlife in Panama

Land ho!

This blog entry is coming at you from Shelter Bay, Panama. We spent our last few days in St. Croix installing our bunks and getting all moved into the boat, before finally casting off Wednesday afternoon from Christianstead.

We all settled into a routine, taking three hour shifts at the helm. We were lucky to have phenomenal weather for the entire journey, with consistent 10 knot winds behind us and calm seas. We encountered 2 groups of dolphins—one joining us for sunset music hour—which was absolutely magical.

We are slowly but surely turning the boys into Swifties. We were visited by birds every morning, hunting for flying fish that the boat scares up out of the water. Flying fish would launch themselves onto the deck at night, one even hit Jason in the face during his watch.

We’ve enjoyed some delicious food, and even had pumpkin pie for our morning snack on Thanksgiving.

We woke up Sunday morning to Panama on the horizon, and the excitement level was high as we maneuvered through all of the huge tankers and cargo ships waiting off the shoreline. We pulled into Shelter Bay around noon, and gave the boat a good scrub and wash down. We were all excited to have service again and be able to call our friends and family back home! For now we’re enjoying the amenities in Shelter Bay, mostly the showers and the bar.

We are hoping to go through the canal Thursday and will update you from Panama City!
