Lahaina Strong Paddle Out: Uniting Our Community After the Lahaina Fires in Maui
In the heart of Maui's West Side lies Historic Lahaina — a town known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant community spirit. As you probably know by now, our beloved Lāhaina Town has been struck by devastating wildfires — leaving thousands of families homeless and communities shattered. In the midst of this unbelievable tragedy, we have gathered to make a difference in our community and bring hope to our ‘Ohana who have lost everything.
On September 8th, we gathered at Ukumehame in remembrance of Lāhaina and its people.
Surrounded by the beauty of the West Maui Mountains, we came together as a community to support one another, heal, and stand strong, united in our path towards recovery after devastating fires ravaged through our neighborhoods, businesses, parks, schools, and so much more.

Paddle outs are a cherished tradition in coastal communities, often associated with the surfing culture. They symbolize unity, respect, and love for the ocean and are a powerful statement of solidarity. Thousands of us paddled out on surfboards, forming a symbolic circle, and released flowers and leis into the ocean as a gesture of respect and remembrance. It is our way to connect with the ocean and pay tribute to the strength of our community.
Amidst the many unknowns, there was a collective sense of optimism for our future — for a better Lahaina built with the influence of a compassionate community. In times of uncertainty, it can be easy to succumb to despair. Yet, on this day, the overwhelming sentiment was one of hope. There was a shared vision for a brighter tomorrow, one where Lahaina would rise, influenced and shaped by the compassion of its people.

In moments like these, gratitude fills our hearts, reminding us to cherish each new day.
Maui remains the most beautiful island in Hawai’i (yes we are biased). In addition to its stunning landscapes and uniques places to explore, the real beauty is in the hearts of its people — these fires have proved that nothing can take that away.
The Lahaina Strong Paddle Out was a beautiful testament to the Lahaina community's strength, unity, and resilience. It showcased the power of coming together to remember the past, honor lives lost, and face the future with hope and determination. In the face of adversity, Lahaina remains strong, proving that its spirit is as unshakable as the waves that kiss its shores.
