Captain Dani Named Maui Tour Guide of the Year
This November, Trilogy’s marketing team attended the 2019 Sustainable Tourism Hālāwai presented by the Sustainable Tourism of Hawai’i.
Held at the Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel in Waikiki, the event included a keynote address by John DeFries, Executive Director of the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association, awards, and a networking pau hana.
About the Sustainable Tourism Association of Hawai’i (STAH)
For over 20 years the Sustainable Tourism Association of Hawaiʻi has promoted sustainable tourism through innovative initiatives and programs aimed at protecting Hawai’i’s natural and cultural resources. Their mission is to protect Hawaii’s unique natural environment and host culture through the promotion of responsible travel and educational programs relating to sustainable tourism for residents, businesses and visitors.
The Sustainable Tourism of Hawai’i (STAH) honors a tour guide from each island (Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island) which are chosen based on demonstration of effective interpretation, conservation of natural resources, and authentic cultural experiences.
Each year the Sustainable Tourism of Hawai’i honors tour guides who best embody the core assets of quality sustainable tourism, and Trilogy’s very own Captain Dani was honored to accept the award for Maui’s Tour Guide of the Year!
Captain Dani IS Maui’s 2019 Tour Guide of the Year
Captain Dani regularly demonstrates her support and devotion to protecting Hawaii through education of sustainable practices for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Dani began her career at Trilogy Excursions in 2016 and has worked as crew, operations manager, and most recently as Captain. She holds a Masters degree in Marine Biology and is a published research author. At Trilogy, Dani has helped restructure the staff training curriculum to focus on safety, marine science, conservation, and Hawaiian culture. This past summer, Dani helped develop and lead our Keiki O Ke Kai Ocean Adventure Camp for youth ages 6-12. She also volunteers with Mauiʻs Monk Seal Response Team, Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, NOAAʻs Humpback Whale Research team, and the Hawaiian Marine Mammal Response Network – which recently helped recover and release several Pygmy Killer Whales that stranded on Mauiʻs south shore. In spring 2019, Dani spent 3 weeks in the Arctic Ice Field installing acoustic monitors to better understand the migration movements of narwhals and belugas. Congratulations to Captain Dani and mahalo for exemplifying STAH’s mission through your daily interactions with Trilogy tour guests.
