Working Alongside the Global Empowerment Mission to Provide Hope and Stability for Maui

Just over a month and half has gone by since ferocious wild fires surged across Lāhaina and Upcountry Maui, engulfing thousands of acres — taking lives, homes, businesses, pets, and so much more. Through the smoke and destruction, the true spirit of our community emerged; we are bound together by love, resilience, and Aloha.

Since that fateful day, our community hasn’t stopped. The essence of Aloha is more than just a greeting; it's a way of life that revolves around love, peace, and compassion. That spirit has guided our relentless efforts to provide resources, shelter, and support to those affected by this tragedy.

The road to recovery is long and fraught with many uncertainties. While we grapple with the pain of the lives lost, we are also racing against time to find housing for the numerous families left without a home and support for our economy that is crumbling before our eyes.

A significant challenge has arisen with the impending reopening of hotels on the West side—a cornerstone of our economy. Tourism, which took a severe hit, is showing slow signs of returning. But as these hotels and establishments prepare to welcome back tourists, there is an urgent need to find permanent accommodations for the displaced families temporarily housed there.

Through these challenges, the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) has been our beacon of hope. Established in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, GEM’s mission resonates deeply with our current plight: delivering prompt, effective aid to those in need. With an impressive track record of over 355 relief missions across 52 countries, GEM's commitment to transparency and effectiveness is evident in its 4-star rating by Charity Navigator. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in addressing our most pressing concerns, particularly in housing and resource distribution.

A testament to our collaborative efforts is the recent inauguration of the Westside Distribution Center at the Kahana Gateway. This initiative, which saw GEM partnering with local community, county, and state leaders, is designed to streamline the distribution of essential supplies for the West Side. Many from our community, including our staff, have dedicated themselves to this cause, either as volunteers or in full-time roles. Open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am to 4pm, this center is a symbol of our collective resolve to rebuild and recover.

"When we come together in a place like this, we reduce that uncertainty. We alleviate that anxiety," said Mayor Bissen.

Our passion is to create lifelong memories that span the generations. As a sustainable tour operator on Maui, our ethos revolves around celebrating our rich heritage, supporting our community, and safeguarding our pristine environment. Our dream is to share the gift of aloha with people worldwide. When you visit Maui, you're not just exploring an island—you're becoming a part of our family. We eagerly await the day we can share our passion, resilience, and Aloha spirit with you.

In the spirit of aloha and unity, we have set up a dedicated GEM fund to further our relief and rebuilding efforts. Every penny donated will directly benefit community initiatives and provide vital assistance to the families most affected by the fires.

During times of adversity, even the smallest acts of generosity can create ripples of change.

By contributing to our GEM fund, you're not only offering financial support but also instilling hope and strength in a community determined to rise from the ashes. We humbly invite everyone, whether near or far, to join hands with us in this endeavor and help Maui flourish once more.
